Cobblemon Installation Guide#

This guide walks through the common launcher-based ways to install Cobblemon.

Before You Start#

  • Cobblemon is for Minecraft: Java Edition, not Bedrock Edition.
  • The following guide is targeted to Minecraft 1.21.1 for the latest Cobblemon release.
  • You need a Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition.
  • If you are joining a server, match the server's mod loader and modpack version.

Which Launcher Should You Use?#

LauncherBest forNotes
Modrinth AppFastest setup for most playersSearch for the official Cobblemon packs and press install.
Prism LauncherPlayers who want more control over instancesGood for managing multiple profiles, Java settings, and memory allocation.
CurseForge AppPlayers already using CurseForge packsUse the standalone app download if you want to avoid installing Overwolf.

The official packs are usually the safest first choice. Pick Fabric when you want the broadly recommended client experience, or NeoForge/Forge when a server or modpack specifically expects that loader.

Install With The Modrinth App#

  1. Download and install the Modrinth App.
  2. Open the app and sign in with your Microsoft account.
  3. Select the search area and look for Cobblemon.
  4. Install one of the official modpacks:
  5. Return to the app home screen after the download finishes.
  6. Press Play on the installed Cobblemon profile.

You can install community Cobblemon packs instead, but they may include extra mods, custom server settings, or gameplay changes beyond the base Cobblemon experience.

Install With Prism Launcher#

  1. Download Prism Launcher from the official Prism Launcher website.
  2. Install it, or extract the zip version to the folder where you want to keep the launcher.
  3. Run Prism Launcher and complete the first-time setup.
  4. When Prism asks for Java, select javaw if you are unsure which Java executable to use.
  5. Increase the memory allocation. The wiki recommends at least 4096 MiB; heavier packs may need more.
  6. Select Add Instance.
  7. Choose Modrinth from the left-side source list.
  8. Search for Cobblemon.
  9. Select the official Fabric or NeoForge/Forge Cobblemon modpack, then confirm with OK.
  10. Open Profiles, choose Manage Accounts, then add your Microsoft account.
  11. Close settings and double-click the new Cobblemon instance to play.

Prism is especially useful when you want separate instances for servers, testing, shaders, or different mod loader versions.

Install With The CurseForge App#

  1. Download the CurseForge App. Choose the standalone download if you do not want the Overwolf version.
  2. Install and open the app.
  3. Go to the Minecraft section.
  4. Use the search bar to look for Cobblemon.
  5. Filter the results to Modpacks.
  6. Install one of the official modpacks:
  7. Press Play from the installed pack page, or go to My Modpacks and launch it from there.

As with Modrinth, community packs can be useful, but they are not always a clean baseline Cobblemon install.

Common Setup Checks#

The game launches but a server rejects me#

Check the server's required Minecraft version, loader, and modpack version. Fabric and NeoForge/Forge packs are not interchangeable for server compatibility.

Prism Launcher cannot find Java#

During setup, choose javaw if Prism offers it. If the launcher still cannot start Minecraft, install the Java version required by the Minecraft version you are launching and point Prism to that executable.

The pack runs slowly or crashes during loading#

Raise the allocated memory, close other heavy apps, and make sure you installed the official pack for the loader you intended to use. For Prism, start with at least 4096 MiB as recommended by the wiki.

I installed a community pack and something feels different#

Community packs can change progression, add server-specific mods, or include extra client features. Install the official Fabric or NeoForge/Forge pack if you want a clean Cobblemon baseline.
